Tamworth is situated about twenty minutes from Birmingham and the NEC, while the Potteries. Peak District, the National Forest, and Shakespeare’s Warwickshire are all within one hour’s drive. The A5 speedily links Tamworth to the A38,the M42 Junction 10 and the motorway network. The local train station is only a short walk from the town centre. Tamworth’s History began in Saxon times when the settlement on the confluence of the river Tame and Anker was the ancient capital of Mercia, under the reign of King Offa. Tamworth Castle , a Norman motte and bailey fortification, provides a stunning backdrop for the town. The castle pleasure grounds provide a perfect day our for all of the family. The
town's main industries include logistics, engineering, clothing, brick,
tile and paper manufacture. It was also home to the Reliant car
company, which produced the famous three-wheeled Robin model and the
Scimitar sportscar for several decades. |
